New Downtempo World Groove concept

I have been knocking around a concept for a downtempo world groove night here in Boston. I finally got some artwork together and got a working name and figured that I should see if anyone is interested. The poll is open to all so anyone coming in from my blog can participate without a LJ login.

Since most bars/clubs would give a new night whatever night of the week the club had open I didn't bother asking what night works best for you.

If there is some interest I will work on a website and some banners. If anyone has ideas on a lounge that is looking for a DJ let me know. If you know of any belly dancers send them my way ;)

and once again I'm in the wrong damn city. Though we've had a few of those here that went pretty well.

and as for a 'feature request,' if you want this night to be more than generic six degrees records compilation night, you could focus the music on a particular tradition and then have related reading materials out for grabs.

I would rather not focus to heavy on any one area since some people would not come out to listen to a particular ethnic music; it's hard enough to just keep them around when I play a single track that they do not know :) By making the night pan-global I can direct the music to where the people that show up want it to go. I have a lot more than a couple of 6 degree's comps :)

What kind of reading materials do you suggest? I can see having music descriptions from all of the countries that I am spinning as well as coffee table books with regional interest. I like the idea of reading materials since it's going to be a lounge night. Maybe also have traditional games from the regions as well?

yeah, coffee table books, maybe there's an ethnomusicology wiki you could print things out from, heh

Loose the Rainbow and move it to any night but Friday! (And not just for my sake! Fridays are crowded! How about a Wednesday?)

This is a place holder (to see what people think about the concept and the art) and the night is what it will be when some club gives me a night. I will take each club's offer and weigh them against other offers. Any information on the card is a place holder (other than the URIs which are registered right now as a placeholder. The chances of getting any weekend night are pretty slim in the Boston area.

Right now the rainbow is the only thing keeping the card from being very mono-chromatic. I could go all red on the logo but the goal of the rainbow is to show multi-culturalism and inclusion since the night concept is supposed to be pan-world music.

If you can think of another way to tie in inclusion and multi-culturalism I would love to hear it.
