Starting at 10am and going to close I'm running sound and DJing with Peter Lee all day at the Fools Mansion, 127 Essex Street Salem MA. Come on out and pick up some really great merch and listen to some really great music at the same time.
I'm bringing out the real equipment and if all goes well I'm also going to be simulcasting to http://www.radiogolgotha.com I have been remaking the site since the old second in command tried to take things over and ultimately got everything deleted by the old ISP *bad DJ no cookie*. I'm now in charge of all of the tech as well as a resident DJ so expect to see more posts from me in the future about shows.
Click on the player icons in the upper left corner of the site to listen in (Itunes people should use the winamp icon since the apple one is getting hooked by quicktime and not itunes) I should have the cast up and running by noon.

Holy crap did Angels on Acid and Ground To Dust destroy the house at the Darq Gala! It was one of the best concerts I have ever been apart of and the best part was the entire house was full of people dancing! I'm so glad that I took the time this last year to totally upgrade all of my sound equipment and get some more lights. It looked really great and sounded even better. Matt had a pro photographer there so I'll be reposting pics soon. I'm back running sound for Voltaire on Dec 12!
My next gig is running sound and DJing all day (Sat 10-31) with Peter Lee at the Fools Mansion, 127 Essex St Salem MA. I get there at 10am and leave when they close. Peter and I will be switching off ever hour or so and brining you a wide variety of music for your shopping enjoyment.
Lastly I am up for Gothic Maine at Plague (Asylum, 121 Center St Portland ME) running sound for Black Tape For A Blue Girl Friday Nov 6th.

The concert was great! I'll post a review soon.
The concert was great! I'll post a review soon.
I just got a mac, there I said it :)
I was seduced by teh sexiness of the new 2.8Ghz Dual Core 500GB/7200RPM MacbookPro 17" with antiglare 1920x1200 display!
I'm in the process of moving over all of my apps (Live7, Mixmeister7, Massive, Battery3, Office) to the mac versions since pretty much everything that I own SW wise has a license that will allow me to do that except my CS3 master collection; that pretty much forces me to use VMware Fusion running XP in a virt machine. Fusion 2.0 is actually really nice since it will just dump all of your XP windows right into Finder and they just look like normal Mac apps. Considering that I was on a single core Pentium 4M with 1GB of ram moving over to a dual core 4GB ram means that even under Fusion the apps are pretty snappy. I'm going to have to make a big decision at some point as to doing a cross platform upgrade to CS4 master collection if I ever really start doing video editing. But for now things are looking pretty good.
I just got a draft of the next Darq flyer done in CS3 (PS v.10.0). It has a lot more features than 7.0 without moving a lot of stuff around so my work flow wasn't too messed up. The best thing is the refine edge feature that you can preview over a black mask. I have had to do this totally manually for years under 7.0 and this makes me really happy!
The big thing left is to get my light board SW up and running under Fusion (PC app only) I'm having problems with the FTDI USB driver for DLL access to the RS-485 bus chipset. It is possible that the newest drivers are not compatible with the SW and the FTDI site only has the new ones. I'm hoping that I left the .inf file around for the version that is installed on my old XP box as I can re-create the install directory. If not I need to start trolling the web for a driver repository to see if that fixes it. If not I may be in the market for a new DMX light board SW package for the MAC. At a minimum I need the ability to beat detect music, create beat triggered scenes, and have manual overrides for everything. Joystick support would also be nice.

I'm starting concept phase on a card for a cancer fundraiser whose inspiration is a violinist in a metal band that recently kicked cancer.

I'm really liking where it's going. I know that I need to work on fonts, especially the Hope Eternal one. The flaming treble clef is a little busy, I like something there flaming I just need to find the right image to put there.
I need to get the lineup as well as additional ad copy and I can make the back of it.
I seem to be doing a lot of cancer charity gigs this year, you all should come out to Darq this Saturday in Salem for the North Shore Medical Center Cancer fundraiser. We have a whole lot of amazing local DJ talent and I'm bringing out a lot of my gear to make it all sound amazing. Everything we bring in for the night is getting donated.

I brought out my camera to take a quick couple of shots while I was taking breaks from the sound booth. There was an official photographer but here are a few candids to tide you over. You can see all of the pics as well as others from my other gigs over at http://www.flickr.com/acuriousproductio n
My subwoofahs are better than yahs!
I finally finished the folded horn subwoofer build and they actually brought the house down at the Electrocution II Festival last Sat. During one of
znuh's sets he brought the bass and I sent it right back causing the ceiling tile above
post_future to disintegrate and rain down on her, sorry about that :)
Not bad for a 4x10" sub running at 600W. I'll put them up against any pair of 18"s anyday. I'll be posting some pictures of the build pretty soon.
I'll post more about EF-II pretty soon (including pictures)

I'm brining out all of my gear for this one, including my brand new 4 folded horn sub woofers of dooooom!

not bad, not bad :) That is a 30% improvement over last year at this time.
The NEDSWB was back for the 8th year and I was picked to run sound and do the lights in addition to being one of the 4 DJs. This marked my second year with the event (last year I DJed) I didn't get any pictures, I was too busy setting up the lights for the vendors to break out my camera. Hopefully there will be a post soon with links to the pictures that were taken.
While a lot of events are held at bars this one has been at the local American Legion (in Arlington center). It looked like they just redid the dance floor (or it was in amazing shape from before) and like most VFW/AL halls the drinks were both strong and cheap. I could have done without the stairs during load in/out :)
I went with a red lighting theme for the event, mostly static Par cans pointed at all of the vendors around the room. Rosco released a really nice red gel in the last year's new colors. Next time I'm going to bring more light trees so I can do more direct light instead of doing a long throw (most of my Par's have wide dispersal bulbs in them right now) The vendors looked really good under the red light (normally there are CFL sconces above them but I turned off most of them to get things looking darker and spooky :)
PA setup was pretty standard, however this was the first time using my new X stand with my DJ mixer board. It seemed pretty stable and that's good since I often have to rely on flimsy tables to hold up the 100 lbs of equipment/flight case.
DJs Arcanus, LostBoy, and Vudu:DJ (as well as myself) all spun great sets. We started the night off with more Goth classics and ramped up the tempo throughout the night. We got on a lot of requests as well.

| ACuriousProduction.com steady growth through the last 6 months |
As ACP works on more and more projects around the area more and more people come to the website to find out what the buzz is about! The New Designers' Fetish Fashionshow and Avon Breast Cancer Fundraiser were outstanding successes and ACP wants to top them next year!
ACP is available to make your next event's art package. 4x6 club cards, web art, click banners, etc all tell your prospective patrons that they need to spend their time/money with you instead of the many other competing events. For not much more than photocopies I can provide you with full color two sided UV gloss coated cards that make a statement.
ACP is also available to run your sound and lights and if you need equipment we can bring it too! Venues up to 8000-10000 sqft can easily be supported with ACP's stock equipment, however for really loud events a 5000 sqft venue is perfect. Beyond what is in stock we can rent any additional equipment that is required.
Need help making sense of all of the tech requirements on your band riders? ACP can decode what is really needed and make your concert run much more smoothly on the day of. Sometimes a little direct communication with the bands is all that is needed to make things run very smooth on the big day.
| CuriousCouture Web Hits From FFF Exposure |
Looking over my web counters I noticed a huge spike in visitors to my sewing site. I only handed out around 300 postcards at the Flea, ordinarily only a small fraction of those get a web hit. Show exposure on the website and being in the program book really does bring people to your site. I have gotten three custom commissions since the show which is way more than normal for this season especially taking into account the economy.
Want this kind of exposure then start planning on entering the 2010 show! Even if you do not have a website or much of a business yet you can still be in the show. In fact that is why we created the show in the first place.
-Jim for fetishfashionshow.com
This year's show has generated quite the buzz. The following is the page load stats for the site minus any of the picture pages. This graph shows how many people come to the site and look around, one hit per page.

As you can see this year's show has had more hits than last year at this time and we have yet to do a press release for the picture release.
Looking at the hits on the pictures we can see a huge ramp up of hits which means that we have people chomping at the bit to see the pics of the show!

I expect to blow last year's numbers out of the water this time.
On a related note, we are the number one hit for Google when searching for Fetish Fashion Show and sixth for Fetish Fashion. Not a bad page rank! In order to get us to the top please link back to us with clickable links whenever possible.

I just posted the pics from the show that I ran lighting on last weekend. Finally got a tripod and got some really good pics!
I'm going to do an order of 1000 so I have cards for the flea and I'm planning on doing one side for ACP and the other will split between CC and getDJpet.com
I really like the swirl texture in the background. I'm not too wedded to purple but it does look pretty good on the screen. Maybe do it in red instead?

Here is a slide show from my Flicker set of the show at the Bangkok Paradise, Darq Ball October 25.
I didn't have too much time to take pictures since I was at the light and sound boards. The new to me camera is working out pretty good. I picked up a flash to use with it but it was swamping out the lights and look of the place. I need to do something different with the exposure settings since even with the bounce it still makes everything look like daytime :) Considering it was the second time out with it I would say that I captured the event pretty well without a tripod. My hand still shakes a little but that could have been the Red Bull *g*
The show was awesome. I'm really glad that I picked up that compressor or my amp and speakers would have been fried! It was mostly all my own equipment at this show with the exception of Matt's(Vudu:DJ) 200W system that we used to fill in the high end. I was running my 600W Peavy system full out and I was running my 2x 400W powered speakers as monitors. I had my big fog machine, four strobes, the Chauvet VUE-II and American DJ LED-Pearl lights all running from my DMX sound board and synchronized to the music on stage.
The system is going to be brought to VT for Termination (Nov 1) and the FGFC820* show and my second appearance at the decks. Get your fatigues out for Military Industrial night at Termination!

There's a $100 prize pool and it's up for grabs if you are zombie enough. There will be makeup artists on hand to add some final Zombie touches as well as enough fog and UV to really get your glow on. If there are any photographers interested in documenting the night please let me know.
Doors open at 8pm and we will be showing "Zombie Strippers" on the big screen while the makeup artist are working. After the movie the floor opens up to the glowing zombie hordes.

All of that and a $100 in prizes should fill the place. *whew*

I have been knocking around a concept for a downtempo world groove night here in Boston. I finally got some artwork together and got a working name and figured that I should see if anyone is interested. The poll is open to all so anyone coming in from my blog can participate without a LJ login.
Since most bars/clubs would give a new night whatever night of the week the club had open I didn't bother asking what night works best for you.
If there is some interest I will work on a website and some banners. If anyone has ideas on a lounge that is looking for a DJ let me know. If you know of any belly dancers send them my way ;)

Darq-NewEngland.com and darqsalem on myspace just got interviewed in the local Salem paper and the flyer that acp designed is featured prominently in the article. Way to go Matt!

The HP class action lawsuit finally went through on my laptop. I am getting a new motherboard since HP had a really crappy heatsink design. Every part that got hot was located next to each other under an insufficient heat sink that was band-aided with two massive fans.
The graphics processor basically bakes and it eventually delaminated from the heat sink. I have had to de-clock slowly down to 30Mhz to keep it cool. Considering I have a 3GHz P4 this has meant my graphics has been teh suxxors for quite some time.
What this means to all of you is that I will not have a laptop for the next 5-7 days plus shipping both ways. I cannot do a lot of my nightly web work nor create new sets for my internet radio station. I will be checking in during the day and if there are emergencies I can try and cover them as I finally got SSH unblocked on my work firewall.
As soon as my laptop is back I will post an update of the blazing fast video performance :)

22.5 hours in the DJ booth over three days! I got tons of compliments and even got another gig lined up as well as a lead on two more.
This year at Dark Odyssey - Winter Fire was a blast. There was many rooms and they all needed music. A Curious Production and DJpet to the rescue!
WF is a lot different than DO - Summer Camp. This one is a little more swinger than SC and it's also all in one place. This meant that my rounds took a lot less time since I didn't have to get a golf cart and go a mile around checking sound volumes and futzing with the setlists on the remote locations.
Sex-o-Rama - two rooms/three speakers(2x300w+1x100w)/1 ipod shuffle
Main Dungeon/Banquet - Grand Ballroom/six speakers(4x300w+2x100w)/Mackie board+DVD+Live DJ setup
Small Dungeons - three rooms/in house PA (ceiling) + 1x100w/2 ipod shuffles with same songs
I spent my time in the main ballroom and left the other spaces to the mercy of my ipods. The ipods were pre-loaded with tracks appropriate to each set of spaces. They were set to random and left going through out the event.
In addition to the main Dungeon's play time there were a few events planned. The first one was the Sat night Dinner Banquet and Burlesque show. I was in charge of setting up the sound for two wireless microphones, 4 300W speakers + 2 100W monitors, a huge video screen. I had access to a large Mackie stereo board and a bunch of cables so I setup the sound stereo with the monitors on the aux sends. The projector was run off a DVD player and the audio fed into the main boards. The hotel had a huge light system setup and I ran the light board while queuing tracks for the show. During dinner I spun down-tempo ambient dinner music with a touch of world stuff in there. Later that night I switched over to more thumpy fare and put on vintage 20's porn on the projector ;)
On Sun night the main playspace opened up with "Dancing with the Pervs" I put together a set of music drawing from requests and my selections to give the people something to dirty dance to! Once people were danced out I switched back to the normal tracks and had two sets of requests.
The first request set was by Barbara Carrellas, author of Urban Tantra and Dossie Easton co-author of The Ethical Slut. They asked for some tribal tracks and I obliged! The second set was for the last scene of the event. A top was going to be topped by his bottom for the very first time! I put together a set of his favorite tracks to make him comfortable while one of my DC friends showed the bottom how to wield a flogger :)

The event went really well and it looks like I just confirmed Leather Retreat this Summer, DO Summer Camp at the end of Summer and heard rumors that Black Rose is looking to hire me as well.
I'm running on 6 hours of sleep since Friday and had around 24 hours of DJing in the main floor booth, in addition to keeping sound going in a bunch of other rooms. I had three ipod shuffles that I rotated around. Each had a hand picked "random" set of tunes from my collection. After the first night I deleted a couple of tracks that really didn't work as well as I had hoped. I also rand sound and lighting for a burlesque show on Sat night. Sunday night was "Dancing with the Pervs" in the main space. I put together a really eclectic set of blues, triphop, reggae, middle eastern, and general world beat for some dancing prior to opening up the space for the nighttime play. I am going to put a streaming copy of that set up on my sight pretty soon.
I'll post the set lists in the next couple of days. A lot of cards were passed out and everyone had a blast!

getdjpet.com was in serious need of some redesign so I spent the weekend cranking out a site plus adding in a ton of new content.
Pretty much all of my setlists and gigs are now linked to on the gigs page and the music page now contains all of my remixes that I have uploaded. My gear page has links to webpages as well.
Let me know if it doesn't work on your browser. I tested it on the latest Safari, Firefox, and IE7, I know that it looks like ass in IE6 right now, I need to do a browser detect and serve out a different stylesheet with non-alpha channel based PNG graphics since IE6 can't handle them correctly.

In addition to posting the pictures I have started a revamp of the website. It is still a little wonky under IE6 and earlier but the nav does work. I checked it out on Safari, Firefox, Seamonkey, and IE7. If you are running an older browser and it's messed up just let me know. There is a little CSS collision with the photo album and my menu styles (I already know about the text color issue on the footer text in the album pages, I also know about the bidy being a different width that the header/footer on some browsers as well)
Feel free to send the link around, I will be issuing a press release later today.

I just want to thank everyone that came out as well as helped put on the fashion show and dance. We lost track after 800 people arrived! I was told that we presold 500 wristbands for Sat and Sunday, which should say a lot about the event. Local area club goers got the chance to see the Fetish Fair Fleamarket(tm) for the first time and many were seen in attendance through out the weekend. DJ Punketta, DJpet, and VJ Proto kept the dance floor packed until we were told to break down after 1am while DJ Gabriell and DJ Decay layed down the downtempo chill for the lounge. Getting new attendees was one of our goals and I think that we succeeded!
The fashion show was very well received and I have been fielding a steady stream of compliments about the show by both people that were in it as well as the audience. There also has been some constructive criticism that will be taken into account at the next one (provided we are asked back)
The show took 6 months to plan and execute. Around 90-100 people were involved with the largest group being the 70+ models. My staff was the best that anyone could hope for and the local talent was jaw dropping. This year's show was an exercise in delegating and trusting my people to do what needed to be done, which they did admirably
All 500 program books were handed out, the extras from the event were passed out from the Fashion Show vending table so that people who didn't make it could see what they missed out on (and give them incentives to come next year)
We had three show photographers as well as a videographer so we will have pictures and video up soon. I just registered http://www.fetishfashionshow.com and soon the goodies will be posted there (I'm just waiting for the DNS to propagate and to get the material up). The show is tomorrow! Response has been crazy! We have been getting
hundreds of people to the website every day and we got 600 on Sunday for a
total of 2500 visits (not hits, but actual people visiting) since the
first of January.

We are expecting well over 500 people (I am personally betting on a
thousand over the entire night) to be at the show, the dance, and hanging
out in our DJed chill space.
The best part is that it is totally FREE and 18+ so come on out and make
