Dresses and Web Design

Last night's dress fitting for catskillz went really well. It is a really nice red velvet form fitting dress from the clothing swap. The only thing wrong is that it was designed for someone with a barrel chest; there is no shaping at all above the waist. The dress itself was in 6 panels so I can take out the excessive fabric in the rib cage area along the seams. After pinning, all of the wrinkles are now gone *yay*

In exchange I'm gonna get some mad web programming skillz in return. We had a lovely discussion over some noodles and a lot of good ideas were brought forth.

I'm still in need of a name. Forms-of-Fashion works but unless I hyphenate it the web address would be www.formsoffashion.com Which looks a lot like I'm sticking forms off of some ash ;)

How does 'The Curious Coutierre' sound ( I may be misspelling the last word, any French speaking people that can give me the spelling for one who does Couture?)

The Curious Coutierre (sp?) sounds liek a winner to me-- original, quirky, interesting.

Forms of Fashion, in my humble opinion just sounds non-descript. I think you need something more zingy.

Working on the Curious theme I could draw on Edward Gorey symbology. mmmm, sofa, mmmm

Or perhaps The Weeping Chandelier! :-)

You might even attract Tiger Lillies fans that way. (They have a CD of the songs o Edward Gorey, which they did with the Kronos Quartet-- delightfully warped).

I think Edward Goreyesque is a very promising theme to follow. The world needs this.

Alliteration is so last century. *grin*

You could always leave out the O.

How about the Horny Haberdasher?
May. 5th, 2005 03:19 pm (UTC)
The main problem with Haberdasher is being tied in with mens' clothing only. It has been used for clothes of _any_ kind before but most people expect to see three piece bankers suits and bowler hats in one.

The Horny Hemaphradite Haberdasher?

I think it is a excellent name! I know coming up with a good name isn't the easiest thing in the world. I too have been trying to come up with something good and am about ready to bang my head against the wall. Not that I don’t have all the time in the world to hone my skills and to get good enough to feel comfortable making for others. *smile* But non-the less it would be fun to think I did have a name for the “some-day” dream. Makes it seem more real. Lil Miz Cheezcake Custom Corsets just sounds like you want to barf up sugar. Ugggh Well, I guess I am of no help to you for new ideas. The Curious Corsetiere sounds like a winner to me and does apply to guys or gals, plus it makes you want to check it out… the curious angle. *s* Oh and about the spelling I wouldn’t worry to much about it, I have seen it spelled all kinds of ways. It will be exciting to see what you end up deciding on and maybe to see some of your creative works in action. While I am hear I wanta just say thanks for all the help you have given me in the corset making world. I am not sure if you feel appreciated when you give the advice you do.

Thanks for the post! Right now I'm leaning towards 'Curious Couture' I snagged curiouscouture.com, curiouscorsets.com, curiouscorsetry.com, and curiouscosmetics.com

Not many people have been commenting on my posts, mostly I feel that they are useful to people but they do not have anything else to add.

I finally got some content up on my site. I just got my first client! She is coming over to get measured this week.

I love reading your posts but usually find that as you said I don't have anything to add or that I run out of time. With all the time it has been taking me to do sewing corsets stuff I find I do not have as much time as I would like for the computer stuff. I usually try and hit the corset making places first, (my class room,) then I try and get to personal journals.

I am really happy to find out you are taking the plunge into making for others as a business. That is so great! And I am so happy you have your first client! I hope it is a fun experience. It is so appealing to do something that you enjoy that others want and will pay for. :)

All the names you have selected sound great but with the curious couture one I don't think of corsets at all but instead detail work, but maybe that is the point. I think though that is wonderful ideas for a names and all of them have there own originality. I always hate it when someone puts designs in their name like... Squashed belly designs...or Goddess Designs...or something like that.

It will be really fun to hear about your projects and maybe see them. Will you be posting photos? Anyways I am excited for you and wish you the best of luck.

yup :) I also do dresses, hats, and stuff. Right now I'm concentrating on pieces that will be worn more often, ege. corsets. It's also the one peice of the outfit that needs the most actual design work. Big skirts and things have a lot more freedom since they don't hug the body.

It will be really fun to hear about your projects and maybe see them. Will you be posting photos?

Curious Corsets is the current place holder page with pics of two of my last designs. I also made a leather skirt for a [Unknown LJ tag] challenge.

When I get finished with my next few projects I should have the real site up and running.
